Position summary

The Asset Reliability Branch is responsible for the operation, maintenance (planned and unplanned) and assessment of the passive assets associated with drinking water, non-drinking water and sewerage networks, pumping stations, tanks, reservoirs and associated civil and structural facilities.

The branch is responsible for the delivery, under normal conditions, of a continuous supply of safe and reliable drinking water. During emergency situations, Asset Reliability will coordinate the provision of drinking water to critical customers and service areas and will restore services as quickly as possible, when interruptions have occurred.

Our key objectives are:

  • provide our customers with safe and reliable drinking water, non-drinking water and sewerage services 24 hours of the day, 365 days of the year.
  • operate, assess and maintain the passive assets associated with the drinking water, non-drinking water and sewerage networks.
  • develop a true customer focused business with improved communications, consistency and innovation in the approach to service delivery and customer/stakeholder engagement.
  • ensure that our staff are equipped with the right skills sets and knowledge to effectively undertake the required work and to assist them in achieving their career objectives.
  • ensure that our people and our customers and community are safe.

About your new role

The First Response Technician role responds to priority works throughout the City's Water and Wastewater network. You will need affective works scoping skills, to allow for efficient delivery of remedial maintenance delivered by both our internal, external maintenance teams. As a frontline role, the First Response Technician will need to have a strong focus on customer satisfaction, whilst meeting business requirements. You will require extensive knowledge of the water and wastewater infrastructure.

Under the direction of the Supervisor Civil Maintenance, you will:

  • Undertake attendance at primarily Priority works, assess the works, resolve or arrange through the Works Officer the required resources to undertake the scope of works.
  • Ensure the customer is updated as to the proposed work plan. Ensure the site is established and safe for hand over to maintenance crew or contractor as required.
  • Undertake minor asset repairs using a cost versus benefit approach
  • Create work scopes for hand over to contract support for planned works, oversee and assist internal resources to complete works.
  • Ensure WHS and other legislative requirements are complied with at all times.
  • Will be required to take part in primary on call duties on a defined roster
