Markland Wood Golf Club is year round private club with over 50 years of history and is firmly established as one of the finest golf courses in Ontario. Markland is focused on servicing its membership and maintaining high standards in all aspect of the club. Food and beverage outlets include; member use full service restaurant, banquets, and halfway house.
JOB OVERVIEW: This position is perfect for a reliable individual - We have positions open 7 days a week during the Summer - May till October, then part-time during offseason October - April. The Server will serve guests in areas of the club with professionalism and efficiency. Gratuities are included on your paycheck.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May open and close dining room and serves and responds in a highly professional manner to members needs within all areas of the club, including but not limited to serving food and beverage.
2. Greets guests and takes their orders (food and beverage) in a polite and professional manner. Answers the phone within three rings using pre-established greeting.
3. Has knowledge of club’s cocktails, wines, beers and spirits as well as daily specials and featured items.
4. Monitors and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of tables, service areas and general club facilities.
5. Is familiar with all Food and Beverage items in the Restaurant and Bar in order to assist the Guest in their selection and to promote these items. Enhances revenue flow through suggestive selling techniques.
6. Is knowledgeable of the club’s facilities and special promotions in order to encourage members to use all of the club’s Profit Centers.
7. Maintains accurate guest checks and enter orders in the POS system before serving any item, and balance credit card and cash sales at the end of every shift
8. Reviews reservation system and Banquet Event Orders (BEO) to familiarize the Markland team about events being held in the Markland Woods Clubhouse.
9. Maintains knowledge of the particular characteristics and description of every wine/champagne by the glass, major wines on the wine list, drink specials and wine specials.
10. Maintains complete knowledge of designated glassware and garnishes for each drink.
11. Monitors Guest’s behaviour, maintaining safety guidelines as established through the Ontario Liquor License Act and through the Smart Serve principles at all times.
12. Follows all fire, health and safety regulations and laws governing Food and Beverage operations in Ontario.
13. Performs related tasks as requested by management.

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, maturity is a plus. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.

Qualifications:
Essential:
1. Smart Serve Certificate
2. Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.
3. Minimum of 1 year service in Private Club or restaurant environment serving food and alcoholic beverages. We will train.
4. Ability to provide legible communication.
Desirable:
1. Prior Club experience or restaurant
2. Previous training in liquor, wine and food service.
Skills:
Essential:
1. Ability to understand guests' service needs.
2. Ability to access and input information into Point of Sale system.
3. Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to multiple guests within any given period of time.
4. Ability to exercise good judgments in determining potentially intoxicated guests.
5. Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
6. Ability to exert physical effort in transporting trays and wine buckets from service areas to guests.
7. Ability to maintain good coordination while serving orders quickly.
8. Ability to exert physical effort in transporting racks with dirty glasses and plates to dishwasher area.
9. Ability to endure abundant physical movements in servicing guests throughout the work areas.
10. Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
11. Ability to follow all serving guidelines under the Ontario Liquor License Act and Smart Serve.
