International Director of People and Culture [Austria]

You can help every child grow up with the love and support of a family.

SOS Children's Villages, founded in 1949 by Hermann Gmeiner, is the world's largest non-governmental organisation focused on supporting children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it.

Child neglect, abuse and abandonment are everywhere. Families are at risk of separation. Locally led, we work in more than 130 countries and territories to strengthen families who are under pressure so they can stay together. When this is not in a child’s or young person's best interests, we provide quality care according to their unique needs.

Together with partners, donors, communities, children, young people, and families, we enable children to grow up with the bonds they need to develop and become their strongest selves. We speak up for each child's rights and advocate for change so all children can grow up in a supportive environment.

We are currently offering a great opportunity for a driven International Director of People and Culture (ID of P&C) to help realise our mission, and to drive the people and culture strategy of one of the largest NGOs globally. Reporting to the COO, the ID of P&C will decisively contribute to SOS Children’s Village International purpose and strategic plan. You will develop and deliver progressive HR and Organisational Development strategies and policies that increase our organisational capability to deliver on our important mission. You will ensure everyone feels included and motivated to continue to deliver against an ambitious programme of transformational change.

As a senior leader, you are experienced in overseeing work in multiple geographic locations or in the international development context. You will be a proven people and culture leader with successful experience of developing and implementing people strategy in a complex organisation. Through your inspiring and encouraging leadership style, you are able to motivate individuals and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders. As the ID of P&C you understand how to negotiate, advocate, and communicate the needs of employees and leadership teams, as well as balance the interests of both. Most importantly, you are deeply committed to the vision, mission, and values of SOS Children’s Villages International.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification quoting reference 6571. The deadline for applications is 9am CET on Friday 16th June 2023.

Though this position would ideally be based in Austria (Innsbruck/Vienna) or in one of our other Global Hubs, SOS Children’s Villages International is also open to candidates being located in one of the other offices of our General Secretariat (with regular travel to Innsbruck/Austria). Salary is competitive with the seniority of the role.

SOS Children’s Villages International strives to ensure gender balance in senior management. Therefore, we strongly encourage women to apply for this position.
