The editorial team at Random House Worlds is seeking an Editor to report to the Editorial Director of Illustrated Nonfiction at Random House Worlds, handling licensed nonfiction for high-profile brands such as Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Minecraft, Bridgerton, Critical Role, and more. The position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a creative and hands-on department, dedicated to creating best-in-class, visual licensed books, including pop culture cookbooks, gift books, and more. We are a highly collaborative team who love to bring our authentic style of nerdery to our favorite fictional worlds.


The Role:

The Editor will coordinate all processes of book production for ten to twelve titles per year for our licensed nonfiction list. For each project, the editor will:

  • Ideate and propose new business to licensed partners
  • Source and hire a creative team to write/photograph/illustrate
  • Establish and adhere to a production schedule
  • Perform developmental and line edits
  • Review all work of editorial freelancers
  • Manage photography and illustration in conjunction with design
  • Collaborate with licensed and internal partners to approve each stage of a project
  • Coordinate the preparation of sales materials
  • Write catalog and flap copy
  • Attend production meetings, editorial meetings, and licensor check-ins, among other meetings


Job requirements:

  • At least five years of editorial experience working on visual, 4-color books
  • At least two years of acquiring experience with a proven sales record
  • Genuine interest in licensed publishing and pop culture
  • Experience taking complicated projects from the idea stage through to publication and a firm grasp of all aspects of book production, with a record of meeting deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and proficiency in creative problem solving and decision making are essential
  • Random House Worlds is a collaborative publishing environment, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team and willing to go the extra mile for authors and licensing partners


The salary range for this position is $70,000-$73,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
