Key Accountabilities:
Role Purpose
This position is within the NMoQ Operations. The Gallery Technician is responsible for routine and specialized maintenance and presentation of the playgrounds and the museum’s collection in the permanent and temporary galleries.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Routine
- Undertake tasks as assigned by Head of Galleries
- Daily review of all Playgrounds
- Report issues detected in the Playgrounds, keep a record and the tracking of the issues and images
- Provide technical support to repair interactives, mechanical games, and replicas in Playgrounds
- Support showcase opening and closing.
- Support regular programs for all aspects of showcase maintenance.
- Provide technical support with showcase lighting, electrical connections in and to the showcases, and mechanicals parts review.
- Support maintenance of gallery team workshop, tools, and materials inventory.
- Monitor and advise on the lighting within the showcase.
- Provide technical support with lighting inside showcases, detect issues, and change lighting components.
- Support with repairs or adjustments in the galleries as needed.
- Supervise internal/external contractors & machinery working in the galleries.
Specific tasks that may be assigned
- Art movement support for NMoQ Collections and Conservation
- Support with regular records of environmental conditions in galleries, storages and inside showcases
- Monitor and support with repair of replicas and models and their mountings.
- Monitor and support with repair of replicas and aroma stations in the in-depth consoles.
- Monitor and support with repair of replicas and interactives in the Family Exhibit installations

- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Electrical skills / experience
- Electromechanical skills / experience
- Manlifts / Forklift / small crane operation
- Knowledge of art/museum object best practice
- Museum experience.
- Showcase build experience.
- Lighting connections skills / experience.
- Workplace Health and Safety practices
Education, Experience, and certification requirements
- Electrical / Mechanical Certificates / Qualifications
- Certificate of mechanical lifting equipment operations manlift.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience.
